Pilot who fought Covid for 243 days wants to thank hospital staff in Houston

A British Airways pilot has said he cannot wait to return to the US to thank medics who helped keep him alive while he battled coronavirus for a record 243 days.
Nick Synott, 52, spent eight months in hospitals around Houston, Texas, after falling ill during a trip to the United States last March. He suffered respiratory failure and was kept alive on ventilators and a heart and lung machine as his wife, Nicki, sat at his bedside every day.
He returned home to Surrey in late December after his recovery. Mr Synott’s record surpasses that of Ali Sakallioglu, a London taxi driver who spent 222 days in hospital.
